Installation & Setup

How to install the plugin, activate it, connect your AI provider, and get the settings right before running your first analysis.

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.2 or later
  • PHP 8.0 or higher
  • An OpenAI account with a valid API key — or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint
  • Administrator access to your WordPress site

Free plan: no license key is needed. Install the plugin, add your API key, and you are ready. The Free plan includes 50 AI operations per month.

Step 1 — Install the plugin

1

Download the plugin ZIP

Download the seo-copilot-ai.zip file from nordicdatatools.com. If you purchased a paid plan, use the download link from your license email or your account page.

2

Upload via WordPress admin

Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin. Click Choose file, select the ZIP, then click Install Now.

Do not unzip the file before uploading — WordPress handles the extraction automatically
3

Activate the plugin

After installation, click Activate Plugin. The SEO Copilot AI menu will appear in your WordPress admin sidebar.

Step 2 — Configure Settings

Go to SEO Copilot AI → Settings. This is where you connect your AI provider and any optional integrations. Work through the cards from top to bottom.

AI provider

Required
OpenAI / Compatible endpoint

Choose OpenAI for the standard API, or Compatible endpoint for Azure OpenAI, a local model, or any service that uses the OpenAI API format.

gpt-4o-mini (default)

Use gpt-4o-mini for fast, cost-efficient analysis. Use gpt-4o for richer output. Any model name supported by your provider works here.

sk-••••••••••••••••

Your OpenAI API key from platform.openai.com/api-keys. Stored locally on your server and never sent to NordicDataTools.

https://example.com/v1/chat/completions

Only used when Provider is set to Compatible endpoint. Leave blank if using standard OpenAI.

After saving, click Test connection to verify the key works before running your first analysis.

Google PageSpeed Insights

Pro, Business & Agency

Adds Core Web Vitals data to every analysis — LCP, CLS, FCP, and a performance score. The API key field is optional: without a key, PageSpeed uses shared anonymous quota. With a key, you get higher rate limits.

AIza…

Get a free key from Google Cloud Console. Enable the PageSpeed Insights API, create credentials, and paste the key here.

Google Search Console

Business & Agency

Pulls real ranking data per page — clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position — and syncs weekly. Used for trend tracking and re-optimization triggers in the monitoring view.

Setup requires a Google Cloud project. You need to create an OAuth 2.0 Client ID (Web application type) in the Google Cloud Console and whitelist the redirect URI shown in your Settings page before connecting.

Save credentials first, then click Connect Google Search Console to complete the OAuth flow. After connecting, select your GSC property from the dropdown and save.

License key

Optional for Free

The Free plan works without a license key. For Pro, Business, or Agency features, enter the license key from your purchase confirmation email and click Save & verify.

SCAI-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

Keys are issued by NordicDataTools via Freemius after purchase. If your key is not being accepted, click Refresh license to force a re-check against the license server.

Analytics & verification code

Optional

Paste a Google Analytics snippet or Search Console verification tag here to inject it into the site <head> on the front end. Use this only if you want a single snippet without a separate plugin. The code is output on the front end only — never in the admin.

Step 3 — Verify everything works

1

Test the AI connection

In Settings → AI provider, click Test connection after saving your API key. A green confirmation message means the key is valid and the model is reachable.

2

Check the Dashboard

Go to SEO Copilot AI → Dashboard. You should see your plan name, AI provider status as Configured, and an AI usage counter. If the provider shows Not configured yet, return to Settings and re-save your API key.

3

Run your first analysis

Go to SEO Copilot AI → Analyze, select a page, enter a keyword, and click Run analysis. A successful result confirms the full setup is working.

Each successful analysis uses one AI operation from your monthly quota

Troubleshooting common setup issues

The plugin menu does not appear after activation

Make sure you are logged in as an Administrator. SEO Copilot AI menus are only visible to users with the manage_options capability.

Test connection returns an error

Check that your API key is correct and has not expired. If using a compatible endpoint, confirm the endpoint URL ends in /v1/chat/completions or equivalent. Also confirm the model name you entered is available on your account.

License key is not being accepted

Paste the key exactly as shown in your purchase email — no extra spaces. Click Refresh license if the key was recently issued. If the problem persists, contact support@nordicdatatools.com.

Google Search Console fails to connect

The most common cause is a missing or incorrect redirect URI. The exact URI shown in your Settings page must be added to the Authorized redirect URIs list in your Google Cloud OAuth client. See the Google Search Console docs page for a full walkthrough.
