License & Plans

What each plan includes, how the NordicDataTools license system works, how to activate your key after purchase, and what happens when a license expires or cannot be verified.

The four plans

SEO Copilot AI has four tiers. Free requires no license key and no purchase. Pro, Business, and Agency require a license key purchased at nordicdatatools.com and processed through Freemius.

How the license system works

Purchases are handled by Freemius — a payment platform used by many WordPress plugin developers. After a successful purchase, Freemius issues a license key which is then verified against the NordicDataTools License Manager — the runtime source of truth for your plan and license status.

Select a plan and complete checkout via Freemius. Payment is processed securely and you receive a license key by email immediately after purchase.

Enter the key in Settings

Go to SEO Copilot AI → Settings → License, paste the key into the License key field, and click Save & verify.

Plugin verifies against NDT License Manager

The plugin sends the key, your site URL, and the installed version to the NordicDataTools license server. The server responds with your plan, license status, and capabilities. This response is cached locally for 6 hours.

Features unlock automatically

Once the license is verified as active, the plan features for your tier unlock immediately. No restart or re-activation needed.

License caching and auto-refresh

6-hour cache, auto-refreshed on admin visits

The license verification response is cached for 6 hours in WordPress options. Every time an admin user visits the WordPress admin, the plugin checks if the cache is older than 6 hours and quietly refreshes it in the background. This keeps your license status current without requiring manual intervention.

If you have just purchased or renewed and want to force an immediate update, click Refresh license in Settings to bypass the cache and fetch a fresh status from the license server right now.

License verification requires your site to reach the NordicDataTools license server. If your server has outbound HTTP restrictions, the license check may fail and the plugin will fall back to Free mode until connectivity is restored. This is the most common cause of unexpected plan downgrades on managed hosting environments.

What happens if verification fails

If the license server cannot be reached — due to a network issue, server outage, or outbound HTTP restriction — the plugin falls back to Free mode for that session. Your license key is not deleted and no features are permanently removed. On the next successful verification (the next admin visit after connectivity is restored), the plan returns to its correct tier.

If the server returns an explicit error (invalid key, expired license, site limit exceeded), the plugin stays in Free mode until the issue is resolved — typically by renewing the license or contacting support.

Renewals and plan changes

  • Freemius handles renewals automatically for subscriptions — your plan renews on schedule and the license remains active without any action on your part
  • After upgrading from one plan to another, click Refresh license in Settings to immediately apply the new plan features rather than waiting for the 6-hour cache to expire
  • After downgrading, the plan change takes effect at the next cache refresh — features from the higher plan are removed automatically
  • If you cancel, the license remains active until the current billing period ends, then reverts to Free at the next verification

Common questions

I purchased Pro but the plugin still shows Free

First, make sure the license key from your purchase email is entered in Settings → License. Click Save & verify to run a fresh check. If the plan still shows Free after verifying, click Refresh license to force a bypass of the cache. If neither works, check that your server can make outbound HTTPS requests to nordicdatatools.com, and contact support@nordicdatatools.com if the problem persists.

Where do I find my license key?

Your key is in the purchase confirmation email from Freemius. If you cannot find it, log in to your account at nordicdatatools.com or check your Freemius account at users.freemius.com for your purchase history and key details.

Can I use one license on multiple sites?

This depends on your plan’s site activation limit, which is set at the time of purchase. Check your license details in your Freemius account or your purchase confirmation email for the number of activations allowed. Agency plan includes Multisite support for a single WordPress Multisite installation — it does not cover unlimited separate single-site installations.

Does the Free plan ever expire?

No. The Free plan is available indefinitely — there is no trial period or expiry. It simply has a 50-operation monthly limit and does not include paid-plan features. You can use Free for as long as you like and upgrade at any point.

What data is sent during license verification?

The plugin sends your license key, your site’s home URL, a site hash (MD5 of the home URL and plugin slug — not personal data), and the installed plugin version. No page content, user data, or personal information is transmitted during verification.
