How field mapping works

Field mapping tells SmartForm AI what each form field means, so it can score leads correctly and generate useful replies.

1

What field mapping is

SmartForm AI does not automatically know what every form field represents. Mapping tells the plugin whether a field is a name, an email address, a message, a budget, a company name, or something else.

Good mapping improves:

  • Lead scoring accuracy
  • AI summaries
  • Reply quality
  • Automation rules
2

Required fields

At minimum, you should map the fields that identify the lead and explain the inquiry.

Recommended minimum mapping:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Message
ℹ️
The message field is the most important one for AI scoring, because it usually contains the strongest buying intent signals.

If your form includes more business context, SmartForm AI can make better decisions.

Useful fields to map include:

  • Company name
  • Phone number
  • Budget
  • Timeline
  • Service type
  • Project size

Common mistakes

The most common mapping issues are simple but important:

  • Mapping the wrong field as email
  • Leaving the message field unmapped
  • Using duplicated mappings for the same field type
  • Forgetting to save after updating the mapping
After changing field mappings, always submit one fresh test lead to confirm the plugin is reading the form correctly.

Mapped your form?

The next step is testing a real lead submission and reviewing the score.
